Championsofswords.org is a social group whose interaction focuses on social interaction through historical recreation from around 3300 BCE to about 1700 CE. We do things like sword fighting in forms such as Steel, Ratan, Rapier, and foam. We also do Thrown Weapons, Combat archery and Siege Weapons. We have recreation battles where all the above things can come into play. We are also very active in the hostorical Arts and Sciences, where we do caligraphy, dance, Brewing, heraldry, sewing, garb making, illumination, hound coursing and many, many more!
Our society is based on the time period from the invention of the sword until it was no longer considered the primary weapon for combat. (3300 BCE to, loosely, the 1700s CE)
An Empire is a geographical locatation that holds a population of members of CoS.
Emperors are decided via a tournament of martial prowess, rotating in the skills set of Ratan, Steel, Rapier and Foam.
CoS offers the following formats with the possibility with more to be included as we build the society.
Artisans are an integral part in our society. They are honored and welcome to create for our many art showcases and competitions.
Yes. For many, striving for goals is what makes a society such as this fun. The CoS will have titles in Martial forms, Service, and Arts.
Will my title in my current organization's title be recognized in the CoS?
Yes! As stated several times above, the CoS is about fun. Some people spent a lifetime trying to achieve a title and the CoS thinks that work should not be lost. All titles from officially recognized organizations transfer.
COS is adjacent to other groups and is a mutual environment for play that brings everyone who loves historical reenactment in one place.
Also, peerages carry over from other groups of play, So if you are a Knight in LARP you would also be a Knight in our society.
First, there will be steel, rattan, rapier, and foam tourneys…if there is something we missed, we will do that too if there is enough participation. There will be official and unofficial tourneys.
As we have seen in almost every form of fighting, when tournaments of high prestige come into play (eg. An SCA Crown), there are always questions as to the validity of the outcome. Missed shots, overstimulated with adrenaline, or sometimes just outright cheating occur. In an effort to prevent this, in Official tourneys, Judicators will actively officiate the bout. (please see Official Tourney in the Rules of Combat)
Secondly, as the CoS is primarily a social group, audiences will not only be allowed, but encouraged to cheer for their favorite fighters (we, of course, still feel booing is rude unless it is done for OBVIOUSLY humorous reasons). The CoS believes fighters are not so fragile as to break if they don’t get the biggest applause
Here is what One member has to say.
What are you most excited about with CoS?
There are several parts of CoS that I'm excited about. Firstly, I love the fact that any form of marshal combat, including combat archery, will be considered for imperial knighthood. This means that individuals skilled in rapier, heavy, steel, and foam fighting will all have the opportunity to become knights.
There will be no divisions or lines separating people based on their preferred combat style. It's a unifying concept where everyone who enjoys fighting can come together under one common banner.
Another aspect that I find particularly appealing is the transferring of titles. It's reassuring to know that the time and effort I've invested in another organization (in my case, 10 years) won't go to waste. It's fulfilling to see that my previous experience and achievements will still hold value and be recognized within CoS. I'm also especially thrilled about the variety of crown types in CoS. The inaugural crown event will showcase the rapier crown, and I'm eagerly anticipating the extraordinary fights that will take place.
What's even more exciting is the potential for creating additional crown types by exploring different formats. This opens up endless possibilities for innovation and creativity within the community. Overall, it's truly inspiring to witness the support and camaraderie among individuals who are pursuing their passions and striving for greatness in CoS.
We are a nonprofit organization who relies on the generosity of participants like you.
